A martyr faithful unto death at Pergamos (Revelation 2:13). "I know ... where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is" (the idol AEsculapius was worshipped there under the serpent form); "and thou holdest fast My name, and hast not denied My faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth." Satan, the old serpent, instigated the idol's devotees, through the magistrates at Pergamos, to slay Antipas. Compare Revelation 2:10; Revelation 12:1-17.
From the co-author of the classic Jamieson, Fausset and Brown Commentary, Fausset's Bible Dictionary stands as one of the best single-volume Bible encyclopedias ever written for general use. The author's writing style is always clear and concise, and he tackles issues important to the average student of the Bible, not just the Biblical scholars. This makes Fausset an excellent tool for both everyday Bible study and in-depth lesson or sermon preparation.Wikipedia
