The last encampment of the Israelites on the east of Jordan. Numbers 33:49 . It was nearly opposite to Jericho. Josephus says (Ant. iv. 8,1) it was the same as Abila, a place full of palm trees. There are groves of Acacias (as the name implies) still in the neighbourhood. It is more often called SHITTIM. Identified with Kefrein 31 51' N, 35 39' E.
