Te'resh (Heb. id. תֶּרֶשׁ, prob. Pers. strictness; Sept. [in some copies only] Θάρας or Θάῤῥας; Vulg. Thares), the second-named of the two eunuchs who kept the door of the palace of Ahasuerus, and who were hanged, their plot to assassinate the king being discovered by Mordecai (Es 2:21; Es 6:2 ). B.C. 479. Josephus: calls him Theodestes (Θεοδέστης, Ant. 11:6, 4 and 10), and says that, the conspiracy having been detected by Barnabazus, a servant of one of the eunuchs, who was a Jew by birth, and who revealed it to Mordecai, the conspirators were crucified.
