Jesus closes out the chapter with a comment on the Trinity. Anyone who hates the Son hates the Father. The Son showed his love at the cross, which was the love the Father meant to show to the creation by sending the Son. Even those who reject Jesus but embrace goodness, love, beauty, science, etc. are embracing the Father's attributes in creation while simultaneously hating the Father. The Holy Spirit is sent so that may truly understand the Son and be grafted into his life (like a branch is grafted into a vine). Because of the Spirit, we may know Jesus and bear witness about him.
