<h3>Oppression, Toil, Friendlessness</h3>4 Again I looked and saw all the oppression that was taking place under the sun:<poetry>I saw the tears of the oppressed— <indent>and they have no comforter;</indent> power was on the side of their oppressors— <indent>and they have no comforter. </indent> 2 <poetry>And I declared that the dead, <indent>who had already died,</indent> are happier than the living, <indent>who are still alive. </indent> </poetry> 3 <poetry>But better than both <indent>is the one who has never been born, </indent> who has not seen the evil <indent>that is done under the sun. </indent></poetry> 4 And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. But those who came later were not pleased with the successor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
