<h3>Job’s Final Word to His Friends</h3>27 And Job continued his discourse: <poetry> 2 <poetry>“As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, <indent>the Almighty, who has made my life bitter, </indent> </poetry> 3 <poetry>as long as I have life within me, <indent>the breath of God in my nostrils,</indent> </poetry> 4 <poetry>my lips will not say anything wicked, <indent>and my tongue will not utter lies. </indent> </poetry> 5 <poetry>I will never admit you are in the right; <indent>till I die, I will not deny my integrity. </indent> </poetry> 6 <poetry>I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it; <indent>my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live. </indent><poetry></poetry> 7 <poetry>“May my enemy be like the wicked, <indent>my adversary like the unjust!</indent> </poetry> 8 <poetry>For what hope have the godless when they are cut off, <indent>when God takes away their life? </indent> </poetry> 9 <poetry>Does God listen to their cry <indent>when distress comes upon them? </indent> </poetry> 10 <poetry>Will they find delight in the Almighty? <indent>Will they call on God at all times?</indent><poetry></poetry> 11 <poetry>“I will teach you about the power of God; <indent>the ways of the Almighty I will not conceal. </indent> </poetry> 12 <poetry>You have all seen this yourselves. <indent>Why then this meaningless talk?</indent><poetry></poetry> 13 <poetry>“Here is the fate God allots to the wicked, <indent>the heritage a ruthless man receives from the Almighty: </indent> </poetry> 14 <poetry>However many his children, their fate is the sword; <indent>his offspring will never have enough to eat. </indent> </poetry> 15 <poetry>The plague will bury those who survive him, <indent>and their widows will not weep for them. </indent> </poetry> 16 <poetry>Though he heaps up silver like dust <indent>and clothes like piles of clay, </indent> </poetry> 17 <poetry>what he lays up the righteous will wear, <indent>and the innocent will divide his silver. </indent> </poetry> 18 <poetry>The house he builds is like a moth’s cocoon, <indent>like a hut made by a watchman.</indent> </poetry> 19 <poetry>He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; <indent>when he opens his eyes, all is gone. </indent> </poetry> 20 <poetry>Terrors overtake him like a flood; <indent>a tempest snatches him away in the night. </indent> </poetry> 21 <poetry>The east wind carries him off, and he is gone; <indent>it sweeps him out of his place. </indent> </poetry> 22 <poetry>It hurls itself against him without mercy <indent>as he flees headlong from its power. </indent> </poetry> 23 <poetry>It claps its hands in derision <indent>and hisses him out of his place.” </indent></poetry>
