<h3>Bildad</h3>8 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:<poetry> 2 <poetry>“How long will you say such things? <indent>Your words are a blustering wind. </indent> </poetry> 3 <poetry>Does God pervert justice? <indent>Does the Almighty pervert what is right? </indent> </poetry> 4 <poetry>When your children sinned against him, <indent>he gave them over to the penalty of their sin. </indent> </poetry> 5 <poetry>But if you will seek God earnestly <indent>and plead with the Almighty, </indent> </poetry> 6 <poetry>if you are pure and upright, <indent>even now he will rouse himself on your behalf </indent> <indent>and restore you to your prosperous state. </indent> </poetry> 7 <poetry>Your beginnings will seem humble, <indent>so prosperous will your future be. </indent><poetry></poetry> 8 <poetry>“Ask the former generation <indent>and find out what their ancestors learned,</indent> </poetry> 9 <poetry>for we were born only yesterday and know nothing, <indent>and our days on earth are but a shadow. </indent> </poetry> 10 <poetry>Will they not instruct you and tell you? <indent>Will they not bring forth words from their understanding? </indent> </poetry> 11 <poetry>Can papyrus grow tall where there is no marsh? <indent>Can reeds thrive without water?</indent> </poetry> 12 <poetry>While still growing and uncut, <indent>they wither more quickly than grass. </indent> </poetry> 13 <poetry>Such is the destiny of all who forget God; <indent>so perishes the hope of the godless. </indent> </poetry> 14 <poetry>What they trust in is fragile ; <indent>what they rely on is a spider’s web. </indent> </poetry> 15 <poetry>They lean on the web, but it gives way; <indent>they cling to it, but it does not hold. </indent> </poetry> 16 <poetry>They are like a well-watered plant in the sunshine, <indent>spreading its shoots over the garden; </indent> </poetry> 17 <poetry>it entwines its roots around a pile of rocks <indent>and looks for a place among the stones.</indent> </poetry> 18 <poetry>But when it is torn from its spot, <indent>that place disowns it and says, ‘I never saw you.’ </indent> </poetry> 19 <poetry>Surely its life withers away, <indent>and from the soil other plants grow. </indent><poetry></poetry> 20 <poetry>“Surely God does not reject one who is blameless <indent>or strengthen the hands of evildoers. </indent> </poetry> 21 <poetry>He will yet fill your mouth with laughter <indent>and your lips with shouts of joy. </indent> </poetry> 22 <poetry>Your enemies will be clothed in shame, <indent>and the tents of the wicked will be no more.” </indent></poetry>

Job 8:1
