JULY 22 Miracle of the Ages "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it." JOHN 14:12–14

God, grant me the courage and strength to pursue Your will in a world where those who believe in You often are ignored, mocked, and ridiculed. Through Your power let me fearlessly face the tides of temptation and tribulation.

When man ceased to commune with his God simply and naturally, he took refuge in words—words. Babel resulted. Then God wanted to do away with man from the earth. Rely less on words. Always remember that speech is of the senses. So make it your servant, never your Master.

Be not afraid. Fear not. It is to the drowning man the Rescuer comes. To the brave swimmer who can fare well alone He comes not. And no rush of Joy can be like that of a man towards his Rescuer. It is a part of My method to wait till the storm is at its full violence. So did I with My disciples on the Lake. I could have bidden the first angry wave be calm, the first gust of wind be still, but what a lesson unlearned. What a sense of tender nearness of refuge and safety would have been lost.

The frets and the worries and the scorn patiently borne mean spiritual Power acquired, operating marvelously.

Be still and know that I am God. Only when the soul attains this calm can there be true work done, and mind and soul and body be strong to conquer and to bear.

The Name of Jesus is so sweet, I love its music to repeat; It makes my joys full and complete, The precious Name of Jesus! W. C. MARTIN (1864–1914) PRAY: Let me be always aware of Your unceasing presence beside me, Lord. You are not only my Savior but also by dearest, closest, most trustworthy Friend.

Have you ever thought of the Joy that the patient, gentle, loving obedience of My disciples brings to My heart? I know no Joy such as the Joy I feel at the loving trust of a dear one. The wounds in the Hands and Feet hurt little compared with the wounds in the Heart that are the wounds, not of My enemies, but of My friends.

I am the Lord of little things, the Divine Control of little happenings. Nothing in the day is too small to be a part of My scheme. The little stones in a mosaic play a big part.

You will have the consciousness of My Presence when you hear no voice. Abide in that Presence. "I am the light of the world," but sometimes in tender pity, I withhold too glaring a light, lest, in its dazzling brightness, you should miss your daily path and work.

Man has such strange ideas of the meaning of My invitation "Come unto Me." Too often has it been interpreted as an urge to pay a duty owed to a Creator, or a debt owed to a Saviour. That "Come unto Me" holds in it a wealth of meaning far surpassing even that. "Come unto Me" for the solution of every problem, for the calming of every fear, for all you need—physical, mental, spiritual. Sick, come to Me for health. Homeless, ask Me for a home. Friendless, claim a friend. Hopeless, a refuge.

Wherever man trusts wholly in Me, and leaves to Me the choosing of the very day and hour, then there is My miracleworking Power as manifest, as marvelously manifest to-day, as ever it was when I was on earth.

Listen quietly. Sometimes you may get no message. Meet thus all the same. You will absorb an atmosphere. Cultivate silence. "God speaks in silences.." A silence, a soft wind. Each can be a message to convey My meaning to the heart, though by no voice, or even word.

Do not be too ready to do, just be. I said, "Be, ye therefore perfect" not "do" perfect things.

Joy is the daughter of calm ... The Strain is only when you are serving another master, the world, fame, the good opinion of men—or carrying two days' worth of burden on the one day. Remember that it must not be.

Barriers Burned Away September 21 M Y Light shall shine upon you. It shall illumine and cheer your way. But it shall also penetrate the dark and secret places of your hearts, revealing perhaps some unrecognized sin, fault or failing. . Desire its radiance, not only for its comfort and guidance, but also for its revelation of all within you that is not wholly Mine. I am the Sun of Righteousness. Rest in My Presence, not clamouring, not supplicating, but resting, until the impurities of your being are burnt out, the dross of your character refined away, and you can go on strengthened and purified to do My work.
