Paul and The Serpent – Acts 28
In lieu of a Torah Portion this week due to the feast of Yom Teruah, we are happy to present a special Bible teaching by minister Joe Ringwood. In this teaching we investigate the story of Paul in his ministry, shipwrecked and stranded on Malta, facing an unknown people and bitten by a poisonous snake. This sounds like a terrible circumstance, but was it? Was this exactly where he needed to be to shine brightly with YAH’s glory?
That Paul’s hand is struck by a viper in the company of strangers is a sign that there is something deeper going on here: was it really just a random snake, or was there another sinister force at work? Many followers of God’s path find that they become the targets of spiritually-rooted attacks, more-so than those around them who may not know the Truth of God’s Word, and the stronger their faith, the harder the ‘Serpent’s’ attacks. In scripture, the Serpent is called the “god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4) so those who conform to the world’s lawless standards are no object of revulsion to him and his wicked ways, but those who shine with God’s light are a threat to his plan of corruption; it is those spreading God’s glory who will be the primary targets of the devil.
So do not lose heart the next time HaSatan attacks, remember who is fighting for us, remember who we follow. These attacks are not deadly if we hold fast to Yah and our messiah Yeshua HaMeshiach: no snake-bite can ever take away our salvation. These things become simply trials that will make us stronger and bring us closer to our Father in heaven. As Yeshua said, those who do his work will be protected: no snake-bite or poison can harm them. As we read the stories from the ministry of one of the greatest evangelists of all time, let us be strengthened in our conviction, that if we overcome those attacks we face, God’s light will shine out from our lives even brighter.
Join us on the Shabbat for an exciting look at what Paul’s story has to say to us today as followers of Yeshua HaMeshiach and how we can be strengthened in our lives to better follow God’s perfect Ways, regardless of the trials we face.
