1 Chronicles 12:32 - The Men of Issachar 
 
Here in chapter 12, there's a list of all the people that came to David from all over Israel in order to crown him as the king of the entire nation, handing him over what was left of Saul's kingdom. In the list, we find this small bit of information about the tribe of Issachar, they were men who understood the times, what Israel ought to do.

In 1 Chronicles 9:35-14:17, we see that where David failed, Jesus perfectly obeys, giving up his life so that God's guidance might permanently reside not in an ark in a city, but in all his people.

​"These words could have come only from the lips of one who had partaken of the wisdom from above. The piety of Abigail, like the fragrance of a flower, breathed out all unconsciously in face and word and action. The Spirit of the Son of God was abiding in her soul. Her speech, seasoned with grace, and full of kindness and peace, shed a heavenly influence. Better impulses came to David, and he trembled as he thought what might have been the consequences of his rash purpose. “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” Matthew 5:9. Would that there were many more like this woman of Israel, who would soothe the irritated feelings, prevent rash impulses, and quell great evils by words of calm and well-directed wisdom."

And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment. 
 
Daniel 12:10 
 
10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. 
 
Daniel 12: 9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 
 
The work of sanctification is the work of a lifetime; it must go on continually; but this work cannot go on in the heart while the light on any part of the truth is rejected or neglected. The sanctified soul will not be content to remain in ignorance, but will desire to walk in the light and to seek for greater light. As a miner digs for gold and silver, so the follower of Christ will seek for truth as for hidden treasures, and will press from light to a greater light, ever increasing in knowledge. He will continually grow in grace and in the knowledge of the truth. Self must be overcome. Every defect of character must be discerned in God’s great mirror. We may discover whether or not we are condemned by God’s standard of character. { 1SM 317.2} 
 
But there are many, many in our churches who know little of the real meaning of the truth for this time. I appeal to them not to disregard the fulfilling of the signs of the times, which says so plainly that the end is near. Oh, how many who have not sought their souls’ salvation will soon make the bitter lamentation: “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved”! {8T 252.2}
