vii. The Feast of Tabernacles 
 
b. These feasts formed Israel religious calendar 
 
i. “At the time of the New Moon” 
 
ii. They used a lunar calendar to mark the year 
 
iii. They would have these special feasts to worship the Lord as a community 
 
c. The Lord’s word 
 
i. “The laws of the God of Jacob” 
 
ii. The Lord’s word would be read and explained by the servants of God 
 
iii. The Lord’s word formed a significant part of the worship service

CULTIVATING A STRONG SPIRIT OF WORSHIP

1. Call to worship (Psalm 81:1 – 2)

a. Asaph led in worship

b. He called the congregation to worship God with great joy!

i. To sing aloud to God

ii. To raise a song to God 

2. Calling upon God our strength (Psalm 81:1)

a. Two phrases to be read side-by-side

i. “God our strength”

ii. “God of Jacob”

b. The historical Jacob (Genesis 27 – 28)

i. He was physically weaker than his brother Esau

ii. He was spiritually weak too!

iii. He sinfully deceived his father and stole his brothers first born blessing

iv. He had to flee his home to avoid being killed by Esau

c. The God of Jacob (Genesis 28 – 32)
