In 1960, Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church was first organized in a small frame building at 3602 Drew Street in the Third Ward area of Houston under the leadership of Reverend Norris Terry.  Reverend Terry resigned as Pastor after four years of service.

• Reverend Willie E. Powell 1964 to 1981
He was instrumental in moving the church from it's original location.

• Reverend Curtis Wallace 1981 to 1990
Under his leadership a larger place of worship was built adjacent to the existing edifice.  The old building was renovated unto classrooms, a spacious cafeteria and a small Chapel.  Reverend Wallace resigned as Pastor in 1990.

• Reverend Terry K. Anderson 1991 to Present
Lilly Grove called Reverend Terry K. Anderson of Eunice, Louisiana to become the fourth Pastor, on December 18, 1990. Reverend Anderson began his tenure as Pastor on the first Sunday in February 1991.

On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders... — Acts 4:5-8 
 
There is a detail here that's easy to miss. You'll notice that there were two high priests mentioned. Annas and Caiphas. One was the former, and the second is the latter. Now, this is unusual because High Priest's served for a lifetime under Hebraic Law. They were only replaced after one died. Interestingly, a High Priest was selected only from one family line — from the line of Aaron, known as the Levitical line. So when it was time to select a new high priest, they were chosen by a spiritual selection process. 
 
However, in this situation, the Roman government had gotten involved in the process. They commandeered the selection method and injected their own choice. The first high priest selected by the Roman government was Annas. The second was Caiphas. This was direct collusion of the government with God's Holy Temple. It was a grotesque departure from a holy and spiritual process. 
 
But notice the Spirit shows up. The Holy Spirit, indwelled by a common man named Peter, pointed out the error of their ways. Peter, who the last time he stood before these two men in the courtyard, blatantly denied Jesus three times. But he is now given a second chance to defend, not deny. And while we think Peter said these words, please note in scripture it says he was "filled with the Holy Spirit." 
 
The contrast here is sharp. On the one hand, you have High Priests who have colluded with the government by bribery to maintain power, control, and popularity. On the other hand, you have Peter, an ordinary man who is indwelled by the Holy Spirit that raises a lame man and speaks with priestly conviction. One empowered by a government, the other empowered by God. 
 
The question is this: How do you live your life? Which man are you? Are you one who trusts in the power, influence, and money of this life? Or are you one who trusts in the power of the Holy Spirit? 
 
Do you want to see miracles? Do you want to speak with conviction? Do you want to live an extraordinary life? Then live today full of the Holy Spirit and not by human effort or human power. 
 
ASK THIS: Are you trusting the Holy Spirit for supernatural power? 
 
DO THIS: Ask the Spirit to indwell you, fill you, and increase your awareness of spiritual things. (Share this prayer below). 
 
PRAY THIS: Spirit, fill me like you did Peter here. To overflowing that I might do your work!

I'm a Minister, Evangelist, and Apologist of the Word of God and the Gospel of our Lord God Jesus Christ. I am an ex-mystic, occultist, and practitioner of witchcraft. I was into the occult for 16 years. My Lord Jesus Christ saved me by His shed blood, and now I work at exposing the Occult.
Now by the grace of God I preach Salvation by Grace through Faith alone, not of works (James 2 is not for salvation). Also, I preach once saved always saved, you cannot lose your salvation (Ephesians 4:30), otherwise again your belief would be then about works and maintenance of salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9/Titus 3:5/Galatians 2:16) and that is against the Word of God (Galatians 1:8-9)

Get Your Bold On! (Acts 4:5-31)

In this message on Acts 4, TA walks us through Peter and John’s unexpected arrest and bold defense of the hope that was in them. Instead of shrinking back, Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, clearly proclaimed that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus. This passage shows us the essentials for boldly making a defense.

The right expectations – The Christian life will be a mixture of reception and rejection. We can expect God to work through us to save those who don’t yet know him, and we must also expect rejection, strained relationships, awkward conversations, or even harsh treatment. 
 
The right relationship with the Holy Spirit – Peter was “filled with the Holy Spirit” and then spoke. God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power. The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead lives in us.

The right priorities – When they were released, they gathered with friends and lifted their voices together to God. They prayed for boldness, not comfort. Then they were filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.

What area of your life are you tempted to fear people instead of trust the Lord?
