"He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls."
The instruction again of self-discipline and structure inside a Christian's life. He that hath no rule over his own spirit - one must have control of his own spirit; slaves have no control of their own lives. Many have the masters of self, of sin, of the world and they follows after that voice that leads to hell. A person that is autonomous has rule of his own self. And inside the Christians life the Spirit of God dwells and speaks to lead them in the right way. His voice is the voice that broke Elijah; His voice is the voice that thundered off of Sinai; His voice is the one that blest JEsus as He came up out of the waters of baptism; and the voice that spoke favor of Him on the mount of transfiguration. And the will and the conscience of such souls, sold out to Christ have rule over their bodies and lives for His glory.
Just as the sinner makes a choice to live for themselves and sin; so the Christian makes a decision to live and die for Christ. But he that has no rule over his own soul is prey to everything and anything. SAtan loves these people for he can easily manipulate and destroy them. Easily they are led to the prison house and have no idea what awaits them. I must stress here that bodily exercise is profitable for healthly reasons. But only for the sake of having a vessel to carry yourself for Christ's purposes. The discipline for exercise is everywhere today. OUr eating, our exercising, our activities; oh, that there was such a emphasis on spiritual exercises. I find few that spend more time with God than they spend for themselves. How blessed to come across such saints that wait before the Lord. These are those that have rule over their own lives. Blessed is the man that rises and walks with God on a structured daily time for Him and with Him. There is not a day that goes by that they are not in His Word, on their knees and allowing for their minds to read and think about Him and His kingdom work.
