"Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth." We are left with this truth to be reminded and applied to our daily experiences. Boast not thyself of to morrow - we realize that boasting is one of the most overrated sins of vanity and pride; WE think nothing of boasting. We think we have every right to do so. But when we consider what boasting truly is from the intents of our heart and actions of our life, it is only sin. We boast of some accomplishment; we boast of victory; we boast of achievements. All these may seem simple enough to us that these are reasons to boast without sin. I would even say some would be innocent enough to boast of, but let us see the whole picture. The alcholic is an alcholic becasue he took the first drink. If he did not drink that first drink, he would never have started down that road of destruction. the same is true with the drug addict, it was simply trying it out. Perhpas curiousity, perhaps peer pressure; but all that leads to addictions and destruction. To boast may seem innocent, but the path it leads to is the sin of pride and destruction. All sin leads to destruciton. It is the road way of life; it is the street called Pride; it is the City of Destruction. You that have read Pilgrim's Progess, will get the essence of that statement. Who can say for certainty that we will be here tomorrow? There is no one alive tthat can assure of such a statement. Too do so, is arrogance. ONly God knows the certainty of tomorrow. For God is omni-present. He is here now; but also there tomorrow and sees and knows all things. Nor are we to stand in the place of making and dictating our agendas for tomorrow. 'If the Lord allows or if the Lord permits' then tomorrow I shall do this or that; is the right mode of thinking and saying. None of us can determine the certainty of anything accept to live by faith that God may allow us to see tomorrow and accomplish this or that for His glory. there are so many decisions that we make in this life for tomorrow it is utterly foolish when we stop and think about it. For example, 'retirement'. Who can honestly say they are going to retire? I think preachers are utterly in sin according to this.
