"I am small and despised: yet do not I forget Thy precepts."
word for law - precepts; One of our smaller verses in the whole Psalm. Broken into two parts. The second part is the reaction to the first statement. I am small and despised - the personal statement, 'I Am'; David is being descriptive of who he is. It is a question for all to understand its importance and significance, 'Who are you?' And because so many don't know who they are, they miss out on learning who He is. David describes himself as 'small and despised.'
We see again this antagonism of enemies, friends and family that have betrayed him. Those that are working against him makes him understand that he is nothing. None of us are anything unless the Lord looks on us with favor. We cannot breath a breathe without God, we cannot make an aciton without Him; everything we are is about Him. Yet, if there be an ounce of pride, you cannot say this about your self. You will not acknowledge your smallness or being despised. For in your mind and heart you think yourself above others. Humility is a key, healthy state of a Christian. 'Christ humbled Himself and became man'. He, Who is God Almighty, became small and despised in the world that He created. How humbling is this! And if Christ did it then what choice do we have?
We must become like Him. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up. Yet, Satan knows the pride that works in our hearts. We don't want to be small; we don't want to be despised. We need to be accepted and loved. OH, how many in the churches fail at this. They cannot stand to be alone. They cannot stand to be what God wants them to be because of their own insecurities. There are those that have to be prominent, they have to be recognized. Let them do something in the church and not be recognized, they pitch a fit. This is their pride and vanity. The humble doesn't have to be recognized for they are content that their God sees and knows it all. Yet, Satan antagonizes with emotion. He puts in the mind and heart for people to not be content with being small. They have to be big. Why be big if God is not in it? It will only come to nought.
