1st Corinthians 15:45 (KJV)
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
Through our degenerate inheritance we have all been born as sons of Adam. Paul's soaring epistle to the believers of Rome identifies this foundational Christian tenant: "death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." This plaguing death that haunts all mortal beings was invoked and its covenant signed by Adam's act of disobedience in the Garden over 6000 years ago. Immediately the notable effects of death began to surface, oozing from the soul as secretion emitting from an infected wound.
Adam's total life was afflicted as this spirit of death violently seized and overcame every life emitting cell within his tripartite composition. His living soul was soon pierced through with many sorrows. His unparalleled knowledge, wisdom, and mental stringency was reduced to ignorance, folly, and confusion. His impeccable stature was soon contorted by a multiplicity of afflictions as sin exercised its perilous dominion. But most of all the harmonious and musical rhapsody of complete and unbroken fellowship with his Creator and Friend was forevermore squelched and aborted.
This spirit of death has permeated the totality of humanity and is ever active subduing and thwarting any hope of deliverance from its morbid grip. Unregenerate man is living underneath the dark clouds of Adam's curse and the effects are influencing every facet of his existence; spirit, soul, and body. Cain's hatred and murder has infiltrated and infected every generation since his own - laughing and jeering as an adversary capturing his prey.
All of the woes superimposed upon humanity through Adam's covenant with death have been canceled and unraveled through the last Adam; a quickening spirit! The obedience of the last Adam enacted a covenant enabling life, whereas the disobedience of the first Adam enacted a covenant annulling life, and thereby invoking death. Through the last Adam the dominion of death lost its legal right to exercise itself upon those purchased or ransomed.
The death of Jesus Christ upon Calvary's Cross disabled death's legal grip upon humanity rendering its covenant annulled because of righteousness and innocence. Moreover the effects of death have been annulled through Jesus Christ and thereby liberating all of those who are in Him. What this means is that deliverance or salvation is available through Him to permeate the total life of those who bear His name. This realism is all but lost in our generation; that Jesus Christ has come to restore life to every facet of our composition and thereby invigorating and reviving the total life.
Adam's total life was soon plagued by death by his act of disobedience. Through the second Adam the total life soon becomes quickened with life. We have gone astray theologically by limiting the influence of the atonement to a futuristic estate. Beloved, just as the consequence of Adam's iniquity was suddenly invoked, the quickening of life through Jesus Christ is suddenly imparted through regeneration.
Tripartite regeneration awaits every true convert of Jesus Christ and nothing but ignorance and spiritual blindness will prohibit its quickening force. Satan greatly desires to keep God's elect bound with confused minds, crippled relationships, disease ridden bodies, and even inadequate provision. His greatest weapon to procure this end is ignorance. The very moment God's people begin to receive revelation concerning God's purpose manifest through His Son, a Quickening Spirit permeating the total life of the redeemed - Satan has lost his advantage.
Beloved, the last Adam has come to reinstate mankind to their previous estate. This is a habitation of harmonious fellowship with and perpetual provision by our Redeemer and Friend. Anything less is contrary to who He is and a gross misrepresentation of scriptural evidence. He challenges us to allow Him to quicken our total life - that we might represent who He really is!
