MEMORISE: ‘He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God…’ (Rom 4:20) READ: Mark 10:46-52 Faith is ‘the Substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen’ (Heb 11:1). Faith is the ability to believe and receive what you are asking for in prayer. There are different kinds of faith. Desperate faith is one major way of achieving good results. For the Christians, faith, it is impossible to please God. Have you ever wondered why at a great gathering of God’s people, some receive God’s miraculous touch while others are left out? This is often determined by whether faith is exercised or not. From our text, Jesus paid a visit to Jericho. There is no record of any miracle there. Imagine, the Prince of Peace himself was in their midst, yet nothing happened during his stay. On his way out of Jericho, a crowd of complacent people followed him. The blind beggar, Bartimaeus, who was on the highway, hearing that Jesus is passing by he activated his faith and cried desperately for his touch. You are the one to trigger off your miracle, not God. As long as you remain in your comfort zone, nothing will happen. Many Christians with certain problems today say if only they had lived in the days of Jesus, their problems would have been solved. That is an excuse for their unbelief. If you cannot reach out in faith to receive your miracle today, you would not have done so when Jesus was on earth, because Jesus always searched for faith in people, and whenever he found it, he told them: ‘Your faith has made you whole.’ Desperate faith is one that resists all odds and oppositions. Any attempt to quench it, rather increase it. It believes that it must receive God’s attention now or never. It is persistent. Jesus could not help but stand still, taking his attention away form everything else just to honour a blind man who demonstrated desperate faith. Today, call on the Lord in desperation. Release your faith and touch him for your desired change. If you have not yet arrived at the bus stop of desperation, it means you can continue to manage with things the way they are. ACTION POINT List ten people in the Bible who demonstrated desperate faith. Consider how you can manifest the same faith today.
