A mother's prayer: reminiscent of Augustine of Hippo, John Newton and many others, Hudson Tayor's mother prayed and prayed that her son's heart be touched and he become a Christian. One day whle his mother was out of town, a teenaged Hudson was rooting around the grounds of the family home when he found a pamphlet describing one man's conversion. He was touched and he asked God to come into his heart. Hudson Taylor devoted himself to prepare for ministry in China. Not only did he learn medicine, but he praciced it in one of the poorest sections of London so he would learn under adverse conditions. There are many other stories about him, and you can read them in any of the excellent biographies. These books have led many christians to become committed to Christ's cause: besides the untold converts in China as a direct result of his work, the continuing work done that years of communism couldn't stamp out, his life's work continues through his story. When his mother returned and he told her of his conversion, she surprised him greatly by telling him that she had been at prayer for him at that time and that she had come away from her prayer time with a sense of peace.
