The New Testament books are filled with references that pertain to soldiers. During those days, Roman soldiers can be seen throughout the entire empire, but especially in Israel due to the incursions taking place there. Some Jewish sects wanted to be free from the oppressors, and so they make surprise attacks to Roman centers.

The Apostle Paul used the soldier as an illustration of what a Christian should be – strong, ready to fight, and courageous. In Ephesians, he broke down the different parts of the Roman soldier’s uniform and applied it to the Christian warfare.

Christian warfare is not a battle between flesh and blood, but by spirits, dominions and powers. The soldier of God should always wear his complete uniform, and be able to wield his only weapon, which is the word of God. There will certainly attacks from the enemy, but as long as the soldier’s faith stands, he would prevail.
