Have you ever prayed "God, whatever it takes" — and meant it? Because there's a difference between praying that prayer and being ready for the *whatever*. God knows what it's going to take to reach the people we love. And it usually doesn't look the way we imagined.

I prayed for my father's salvation for 26 years. Twenty-six years of a hard relationship, of waiting, of watching. When the end came, it didn't come the way I would have chosen — it came through pain, through suffering, through a cancer that brought a man as stubborn as an oak tree to his knees. But in that pain, God opened a door. And by His grace, I was able to lead my dad to Christ with just one hour to spare before he slipped into a coma and never came out.

That one hour became the greatest hour of my life with him. We talked about salvation. We talked about forgiveness. We talked about heaven. And the last thing my father ever said to me — not knowing it would be our final conversation — was "I will be there."

If you're praying for someone you love and it feels like things are getting worse instead of better, I want you to hear this: God is faithful. He hears your prayers. He just doesn't always answer them the way we expect. Keep praying the whatever prayer — and trust the One who knows exactly what it's going to take.
