Jesus says that all who come to him will be given water welling up to the river of life, that is, all who come to him in faith will receive eternal life. The difficulty is that Jesus also just said that he is going to the Father and that we cannot come to him. However, Jesus spoke about the water of life in connection to the Holy Spirit who would be given to the Church of all believers after the Ascension of Jesus. Although it is impossible for us to come to Christ, the Holy Spirit brings us to Christ so that we have eternal life by way of the Spirit.
