In Mark chapter 11, Jesus came into the Temple courts, turned over the tables of the money changers, and chased all the animals out of the Temple. The Temple represented the presence of God. But the religious leaders were using the Temple as a money-making scheme.

We can see why Jesus cleansed the temple nearly 2000 years ago. But maybe a more important question for us is “How does this apply to us today?”

The Temple in the Old Testament was just a symbol of something much greater in the Christian age. God does not dwell in temples made with human hands. God lives in us, His people. As Christians, we are the Temple of God today. And Jesus is just as passionate about keeping His Temple clean today as He was 2000 years ago.

This is a sermon based on Mark chapter 11. I preached this message at the Minnehaha Church of Christ in Vancouver Washington on Sunday, February 16, 2020.
