This week we start our study of Esther!

Application Questions:
1) In Esther, many Israelites are living as exiles in Persia. Spiritually speaking, how is that context similar to our experience as Christians right now?
2) In Esther 1, Ahasuerus's pride was on full display. What areas are you most tempted by pride? In what ways are you most tempted to sinfully marvel at others? How do you guard your heart against these temptations?
3) In addition to Ahasuerus's providences and parties, his possessions are also elaborately described. How do we check our affections to make sure we are not coveting material possessions? What material possessions are you most tempted to idolize?
4) Ahasuerus was a pagan king that wanted to control everything. Throughout the Bible, and in history, we see evil leaders that ruled with cruelty. Yet, the Bible calls us to submit to governing authorities and to pray for them (Rom 13 & 1 Timothy 2). Pause right now and pray for the authorities in your life and in our nation.
5) How are you drawn to worship our true King Jesus as you contrast Him with King Ahasuerus in Esther 1?
