2 Samuel 5 displays David walking and living in the “sweet spot” of God’s will as God, in his timing, makes him king over Israel. David displayed his trust in the Lord by knowing God’s priorities, bring filled with God’s Spirit, and seeking God’s direction. David, however, was not perfect and sinfully took wives he should not have taken, which points beyond David to the greater David, Jesus, who will perfectly do God’s will to bring salvation to his people.

The incredible story of God's upside-down grace to us in Jesus Christ.

There is something upside-down about Jesus. In our world, it’s always a fight to get to the top. If life is like a pyramid, everyone wants to get to the top, and it doesn’t seem to matter how many people get squashed along the way. 

But there is something upside-down about Jesus. He takes the pyramid that everyone is trying to get to the top of, and he flips it upside-down. In inexplicable grace, he put himself on the bottom. He left heaven to come as our Savior to earth. He humbled himself below everyone else and died the death we deserve on the cross for our sins. Who does that? There’s something upside-down about Jesus!

That’s where you and I come in: Jesus did all of that for us! Perfect Jesus was punished so that we sinners are forgiven? That’s upside-down. That’s Jesus! When he rose from the dead, he opened heaven to you and me. Life in the face of death? That’s Jesus - our Upside-Down Savior!

This Independence Day, there is a lot of fear and anxiety about the future of our country. The Bible reminds us of this: Who exalts kingdoms? God does! Who is really controlling this country? God is! Who put the people into authority who are in authority? God did! Who decides how long this country lasts? God does! In the midst of our fears and anxieties, God invites us to put our trust in him again. I hope you can watch this Independence Day sermon: “The LORD Exalts His Kingdom.” God bless you!
