Joshua thoroughly crushed all the strongholds of the Canaanite kings, and in this sense, Joshua took the whole land. However, there were still many small towns and villages remaining. It was the task of each individual tribe to fight and plunder the land that was specifically apportioned to them as their inheritance. If these tribes failed to do so, it was not because of any lack in the power of God, but their own failure to take for themselves what Joshua had given and allotted to each of them. In the same sense, Jesus (the ultimate Joshua) has already defeated the enemy and conquered the land, but he also calls us into battle to further secure what is already ours.

15 Just as the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses. 
 
Message Outline : 
Intro: Preparation for Absolute victory 
▶ CVDIP 
(1) See in advance the ab. sovereignty of God 
(2) Possess in advance the ab. plan of God 
(3) Enjoy in advance the ab. covenant of God 
(4) Conquer in advance the ab. journey of God 
(5) Fulfill in advance the ab. goal of God 
 
1. Stumbling block in doing all that the Lord Commands – Unbelief (v.1-5) 
(v.4) And they came out with all their troops, a great horde, in number like the sand that is on the seashore, with very many horses and chariots. 
▶ 3 conditions for unbelief: 
(1) Lack of assurance in what God has given you 
(2) Lack of faith in the plan of God 
(3) Lack of enjoyment of the spiritual truth 
 
2. The Strength to do all that the Lord commands (v.6-9) 
(1) Only Covenant (v.6) 
(2) 24, 25, eternity (v.8) 
 “the Lord gave them into the hand of Israel 
(3) Imprint, root, nature (v.15) 
 “Just as the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses.” 
 
3. The conclusion of doing all that the Lord commands 
(1) Complete conquest (v.16) 
 “So Joshua took all that land, the hill country and all the Negeb and all the land of Goshen and the lowland and the Arabah and the hill country of Israel and its lowland” 
(2) Complete change (v.21) 
 “And Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill country,” 
(3) Complete rest (v.23) 
 “And the land had rest from war.” 
 
Conclusion: What remains in your heart? 
Unbelief or Covenant?

"THE BOOK OF JOSHUA ~ a Type & Shadow” A-059 (09-14-22) Joshua 11:21-23

This week’s episode was lesson #59 from Joshua 11:21-23 as we continue in this study. 
● Joshua 11:21 (New English Translation) “At that time Joshua attacked and eliminated the Anakites from the hill country—from Hebron, Debir, Anab, and all the hill country of Judah and Israel. Joshua annihilated them and their cities.” 
● Israel had seen the land that “flows with milk and honey,” nevertheless, they also saw its inhabitants as “strong;” and “the cities are fortified and very large,” and occupied by the descendants of Anak, or of the Anakites. However, the story continues in verse 22 about the condition the armies of Israel left the land and its people. 
● Joshua 11:22 (NET) says, “No Anakites were left in Israelite territory, though some remained in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod.” 
● What we are seeing here is the continued type and shadow of how mindsets can seem to be as giants who have occupied a piece of our minds or thoughts and look as if they are not movable or conquerable within. The fact is that an eternal truth was established at creation that you are the Image and Likeness of your Creator, and His dominion or authority to rule over all things has been implanted within you from eternity past. 
● Joshua 11:23 (NET) says, “Joshua conquered {Heb. took} the whole land, just as the LORD had promised Moses, and he assigned Israel their tribal portions. Then the land was free of war.” 
● As a type and shadow, you would be Israel who is set on taking the land of unrenewed thoughts in your own soul, and no one else can do it, and no one else has the authority or responsibility to be in charge of your own mind. Separation is not now, nor was it ever the design of God as our Creator for the creation to be separated from Him no more than it is possible for you to be human, and no longer be spirit at the same time. Some way we must come to embrace the idea that the giants and enemies we have in life are simply the concerns and worries of the trials we face today, as even the fears concerning tomorrow which have not even happened, and most likely will never come to pass. 
● Many people often fear two things: 1) things that have not yet happened, 2) things that may never happen. The thing we must realize today is that tests, trials, and or temptations do not come from God, but only from within our own thoughts. 
● This one issue has been the misguided defeat of many for as long as I can remember in that we are often convinced that we have to somehow conquer all of our challenges on our own within realizing that we were not created to be overcome, but as one who is always positioned as an overcomer. The greatest error people make still today is not resting in what the Creator has created within the creation. 
● The reality is that some people will only enter into God’s rest when their bodies cease to be in this natural appearance realm, but the truth is that we don’t have to wait. As we have been looking at the wandering tribes of Canaan, occupying a land that was never theirs, we see the allegorical picture of the wandering thoughts within the mind of our soul that are simply occupying space that never belonged to them. The problem is that many are still waiting on one of two things: 1) for God to eradicate the unrenewed thoughts within our soul, or 2) for them to die and go to heaven up, up in the sky. The two solutions to these problems is that 1) God will not remove unwanted thoughts from your mind, because He created you like Himself, and leave that renewal process up to you, and 2) when a body dies, it does not actually die, but ceases to be represented by flesh, and goes back to invisibility from the visible appearance form you see in the mirror each day. 
● The type and shadow that I see here as we finish Joshua chapter 12, that no matter how huge the battle may seem to be, like Joshua, we need to stand up in faith, take responsibility as those created in the Image and Likeness of our Creator, and grab hold of the truth of our own God-given ability and authority to rule over our own challenges from the position of rest, and not warfare. I hope you were enlightened and inspired to “dig deep into the well of Father’s mind within” as you watch this video lesson!
