“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

We adapt everything we see, hear or encounter as we live here on Earth; we adjust to the culture, follow behaviors, practice traditions, apply learnings, do what is typical, and refine what is practiced at home. Everything is entirely adapted later on in life. However, Jesus calls us to stand out and not follow what is accepted in the world.

There is a “world system” that we consistently fail to recognize. These are ungodly patterns that are very rampant in our society. Sadly, many Christians recognize these. However, they choose to ignore them. They conform to what is seen on social media, what is popular in one’s culture, or what is accepted in the world because, for them, it’s okay, and many people are happy despite not being Godly.

We conform to the pattern of this world because we live our lives based on our feelings. We seek instant gratification. We choose the path where we will be happy and fulfilled instantly. But Jesus didn’t call us to be happy. He called us to be obedient, and the rest is a bonus. He didn’t die on the cross so we could be happy. He died so we could spend eternity with God.

To be transformed, start in your mind. Start changing the way you think first before doing any actions. Believers must think differently from the rest of the world. Remember, we are here to please God, not our feelings, and certainly, not the world. So start by deciding to say, “I want to be transformed. I don’t want to conform to the world. I shall renew my mind.”

But being transformed doesn’t stop there. After making up your mind, it should lead you to the questions, “Now, what does God want me to do?”, What does He say about this?”,  “What does His Word say?”, “Does God approve of this when I do this?” Transformation may start on the inside, but it will eventually come out with how we live our life.

You see, if you decide to abide in His Will, you will be able to see that all along, He is good, that His Will is indeed good, pleasing, and perfect. It may be hard to obey, but you will realize that He wants nothing but the best for you. So, find that out.
