The Body and Blood of the Lamb

The Body and Blood of the Lamb

by Robert B. Thompson
The Lord Jesus Christ is a Person, born a man. His family and disciples did not refer to Jesus as Christ, or Lamb, but as “Jesus.” I believe it is helpful at times to remember that Jesus is a Person like your or me. If I am not mistaken, He is more desirous than we are that we relate to Him as a Brother and Friend, and speak to Him in the vernacular.
I myself talk to the Lord Jesus many times each day, and in the night when I am awake. I ask Him about everything I do, because I need His wisdom and help. Jesus has been my best friend for more than seventy years.
“Christ” refers to the anointing of the Spirit of God that is on Jesus. This anointing is so great as to be incomprehensible. Christ can mend the broken wing of a butterfly and can create a galaxy of stars.
When we speak of “Christ” being formed in us, we mean some of that anointing is being formed in us, to help us overcome sin, and to communicate the will and blessing of God to other people, particularly to other members of the Body of Christ. This may be in the form of gifts or ministries.
“The Lamb of God” speaks of the meek and gentle Nature of God. It is Jesus’ Personality.
The body and blood of Jesus multiplies constantly, similarly to the multiplying of the loaves and fish. It is the resurrection Life of Jesus. The eternal moral Law of God is contained in the body and blood of Jesus.
It is the new covenant.
As we keep pressing forward in the Lord, the body and blood of Jesus are as “hidden manna” that are added to our mind and heart. In this manner the Divine Nature of God replaces our adamic nature. We begin to conform to the eternal moral Law of God by our new nature.
So we have the Person of Jesus; the anointing of the Spirit of God (the “Christing,” so to speak) by which the Lord Jesus is able to do all the works of God; and the ever multiplying body and blood of the new covenant.
In addition to this, the Man, Jesus, is filled with the Father.
I don’t believe we Christians have a problem with exalting Jesus to the highest throne of the Godhead. Rather, it is in knowing Him as our personal Friend and Confidante.
