The Symbolism of the New Jerusalem
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. (Revelation 21:2,3)
Now, what is the "dwelling of God"?
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. (Ephesians 2:19-22)
"The dwelling of God is with men."
"You too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives."
It is clear, then, that the Christian Church, which is the eternal dwelling of God, is the new Jerusalem. The new Jerusalem is the Tabernacle of God that will be with the citizens of the new earth during the ages of eternity.
The earlier description of the Bride, found in the nineteenth chapter of the Book of Revelation tells us that the Bride makes herself ready. This is a firstfruits of the Bride, who will be ready when the Lord next appears to the earth.
