Let’s look at a difficult and commonly misunderstood passage of Scripture. Jesus is speaking:

People were suddenly subject to the curse, which caused them to perform for identity instead of operating out of their identity. This has led to all sorts of perversions - people working for love instead of from love, for instance, and men and women measuring their relationship with God by their disciplines instead of by their passion.

Let me put this in my words: Solomon asked for a hearing heart, and God said, Okay, I’ll give you wisdom. The implication is that wisdom is not just a deposit made into somebody who now has all the answers. It implies that the ability to hear the voice of God is the key to wisdom. Wisdom, then, is a relational fruit.

Oh, yes, you can sin with your tongue! David knew this and took special steps to keep himself from that kind of sin. He knew how serious God is about the damage and destruction the tongue can do. He obviously passed this knowledge along to his son, Solomon, because in Proverbs 6, Solomon wrote: These six

When we are acting like God, we are being ourselves! The ramifications of having God as our Daddy (rather than some ape dragging his knuckles in the African jungle somewhere) is life changing. I hope you can see that what you believe about your origin makes a difference in the way you value yourself and humanity in general.

THE TWO CROSSES Many years ago, A. W. Tozer said that whereas the old cross killed the sinner, the new cross redirects the sinner. Consider his timely words: The new cross does not slay the sinner, it redirects him. It gears him into a cleaner and jollier way of living and saves his self-respect. To the self-assertive it says, “Come and assert yourself for Christ.” To the egotist it says, “Come and do your boasting in the Lord.” To the thrill seeker it says, “Come and enjoy the thrill of Christian fellowship.” The Christian message is slanted in the direction of the current vogue in order to make it acceptable to the public. It would seem that in twenty-first century Christianity, there are two crosses—the authentic and the counterfeit. The authentic cross calls us to surrender all while the counterfeit pats us on the back and assures us that we can take the world along for the journey. This is why true, sustained revival continues to evade us. We are becoming like the system we have been commissioned to transform. In compromising with the world by embracing another cross, we offer a great disservice to the very people who are desperately in need of God.

As we give ourselves to serving our city for the sake of the city—not for the sake of our ministry, our church attendance or even the church attendance across the city—we find greater open doors of influence.

A man's stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth, and from the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the LORD. Allow

But I also knew this wasn’t about performance, or about getting it right before God would accept me. I was already accepted in Christ. And that changes everything!

Many talk of renewal, revival, and outpouring. The question is where is this nation-shaking move of God going to come from? Are we waiting for something new to come down out from Heaven, or are we pressing in for a great awakening of global proportion?
