Letting Go of Shame from Divorce - Denise Pass
Shame RX: Divorce is not the unforgivable sin. Matthew 5:32 “But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” Sitting in the church pew alone, I looked around at seemingly happy couples, wondering...

SGM Scandals and What Ought To Go Without Saying... - Divorce Minister
“I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.” -Matthew 19:9, NIV Recently, an article was published online by The Washingtonian about The Sovereign Grace Ministries (SGM) scandals that include stories of child molestation and alleged cover-ups by pastors. This ministry family of churches included such evangelical-land … Continue reading “SGM Scandals and What Ought To Go Without Saying…”

The Bible and Divorce
Typically, conservative churches focus on the law, particularly on Matthew 19verse 9: “I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery.” Based on this passage, I was told I did not have God's permission to divorce, and I needed to stay in my unhealthy marriage. He writes, “My hope is that the church will rediscover the biblical principles that divorce should occur only when marriage vows are broken and that only the wronged partner may decide whether this will happen." He writes: There were no debates about the validity of neglect and abuse as grounds for divorce in any ancient Jewish literature, for the same reason that there are none about the oneness of God: these principles were unanimously agreed on. I also believe this passage means we are free to make the choice to divorce if the marriage is irretrievably broken. We should not leave out of hate but rather seek to maintain agape love — love that is merciful, full of grace and unselfish, seeking the best for the other while maintaining respect for ourselves.Blessings, Instone-Brewer, David. Listen to the Holy Spirit - Divorce Minister
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. – 2 Timothy 1:7, KJV One of the beautiful things about true Christianity is that Christians serve a living and active God. Silencing of faithful spouses by the Christian community - Divorce Minister
May all who gloat over my distress be put to shame and confusion; may all who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and disgrace. -Psalm 35:25, NIV Churches and church leaders, generally speaking, are not good at giving faithful spouses a voice and reaffirming their agency. At least, that is my experience. What is common … Continue reading “Silencing of faithful spouses by the Christian community”
