Expository Notes of Dr. Thomas Constable - Ezekiel 45:21-24

On the fourteenth day of the first month of the year the Israelites were to celebrate the Passover and then a seven-day feast using unleavened bread (cf. Exodus 12:1-14; Leviticus 23:5-8; Numbers 28:16-25). The same relationship between the Passover and the feast of Unleavened Bread that existed under the Old Covenant appears to exist here. The Jews celebrated the Passover after sundown on the fourteenth of Nisan. For the next seven days they celebrated the feast of Unleavened Bread. The Jews... read more

§ 2. The Ordinances of the New Israel (Ezekiel 40-48)This concluding section of the book is dated in the twenty-fifth year of Ezekiel's captivity, i.e. the fourteenth year after the fall of Jerusalem (572 b.c.). It is therefore thirteen years later than the previous section (Ezekiel 33-39), and, with the exception of Ezekiel 29:17-21, forms the latest part of the book. It is in the form of a vision, which is the counterpart of that in Ezekiel 8-11. There God forsook the old Temple which had... read more

Expositor's Bible Commentary - Ezekiel 45:1-25

THE RITUALEzekiel 45:1-25; Ezekiel 46:1-24IT is difficult to go back in imagination to a time when sacrifice was the sole and sufficient form of every complete act of worship. That the slaughter of an animal, or at least the presentation of a material offering of some sort, should ever have been considered of the essence of intercourse with the Deity may seem to us incredible in the light of the idea of God which we now possess. Yet there can be no doubt that there was a stage of religious... read more

THE CLOSE OF THE BOOK THE GATE OF THE PRINCE (Ezekiel 44:1-3 ) As the glory of Jehovah had entered this gate (Ezekiel 48:4-5 ), it must hereafter be closed for all but His representative the prince. This cannot mean the Messiah, because the prince requires a sin-offering. (Remember that sin will be suppressed in that day, but not yet extirpated.) Doubtless this prince is a future prince of the house of David. THE FUTURE PRIESTS AND LEVITES (Ezekiel 44:9-31 ) Ezekiel 44:9-14 show that... read more

Concerning the passover, and all the other offerings here appointed, we have only to consider them through the medium of the Gospel, and behold how all, and every one, pointed to Christ, our passover; and in Him had their accomplishment. To Him give all the Prophets witness; and in Him we discover the whole tendency, and end of the law, for righteousness to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile. Acts 10:43 ; Romans 10:4 . read more
