The Ark of the Covenant of the Lord. This temple of Solomon, so "exceeding magnifical," this "holy and beautiful house," "of fame and glory throughout all lands"—why was it built? what its primary purpose? It was above everything else a home for the ark ( 1 Kings 8:1 , 1 Kings 8:6 ), a place for the Divine Glory which hovered over it. And the oracle [Heb. an oracle. Heb. דְּבִיר probably from דָּבַר speak. Sc Jerome ,oraculum; and Aquila and Symm. χρηματιστήριον .
