And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant ,—literally, for a covenant of eternity ( vide Genesis 9:16 )— to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee . Literally, to be for Elohim ; a formula comprehending all saving benefits; a clear indication of the spiritual character of the Abrahamic covenant (cf.
