Zedekiah rebelled—His "anger" against Jerusalem, determining Him to "cast out" His people "from His presence" heretofore manifested there, led Him to permit Zedekiah to rebel (2 Kings 23:26; 2 Kings 23:27; compare Exodus 9:12; Exodus 10:1; Romans 9:18). That rebellion, being in violation of his oath "by God," was sure to bring down God's vengeance (2 Chronicles 36:13; Ezekiel 17:15; Ezekiel 17:16; Ezekiel 17:18). read more

Jeremiah 52:3. For through the anger of the Lord, &c.— For it was so because of the anger of JEHOVAH against Judah and Jerusalem. The particle כי ki, is here causal, and assigns a reason for what went before; namely, why Zedekiah succeeded Jehoiakim in the throne.
