Genesis 5:1. The book of the generation— See note on Genesis 2:4, Sepher ספר rendered book, signifies any particular relation, recital, or account; a register, catalogue, or epistle. Here, therefore, the book of the generations means, "an account, or recital, of the posterity of Adam." So Matthew 1:1. βιβλος γενεσεως, the book of the generation, implies, "an account of those from whom Christ, the second Adam, came."
