James Gray's Concise Bible Commentary - 2 Chronicles 5:1-14

SOLOMON ’S REIGN HIS PRAYER AND ITS ANSWER (2 Chronicles 1:1-3 ) With verses three and four compare 1 Chronicles 16:0 , and especially 1 Chronicles 16:37-40 . The tabernacle at Gibeon was the legal place for worship, but the threshing-floor on Matthew Moriah was chosen by David for the reason given (1 Chronicles 21:29 ). A comparison with the corresponding place in 1 Kings will show how this account is abbreviated as the matter was not necessary to the author’s purpose. HIS POWER AND... read more

The People's Bible by Joseph Parker - 2 Chronicles 5:1-14

2 Chronicles 5:0 1. Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the Lord was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated [see 1 Chronicles 18:8-10 , 1 Chronicles 18:11 ; 1 Chronicles 22:3-5 , 1Ch 22:14-16 ; 1 Chronicles 28:14-18 ; 1 Chronicles 29:2-5 . Robert Hawker

Hawker's Poor Man's Commentary - 2 Chronicles 5:9

That the ark was in the temple unto this day, means somewhat more, than the mere literal sense. Most probably Ezra wrote this book of the Chronicles; at which time Solomon's temple was destroyed. I rather think Ezra had a spiritual meaning in the expression; and that the phrase is intended to say, that the ark, that is, the presence of the Lord, is with Israel to this day. How delightful to consider, Jesus is with his people always, even unto the end of the world! read more

Matthew Henry

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on the Bible - 2 Chronicles 5:1-10

1-10 The ark was a type of Christ, and, as such, a token of the presence of God. That gracious promise, Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world, does, in effect, bring the ark into our religious assemblies, if we by faith and prayer plead that promise; and this we should be most earnest for. When Christ is formed in a soul, the law written in the heart, the ark of the covenant settled there, so that it becomes the temple of the Holy Ghost, there is true satisfaction in that... read more

G. Campbell Morgan's Exposition on the Whole Bible - 2 Chronicles 5:1-14

Construction being completed, the happy and solemn ceremony of dedication by the people and consecration by God followed immediately. With awe-inspiring dignity the Ark of God was carried to its resting place-not a new one, but which for long years had been the very center of the nation's lifer Its progress to position was accompanied by vast sacrifices, which spoke eloquently and solemnly of sinful men's only way of approach to God. Then came a great burst of harmony in which vocal and... read more

Arthur Peake's Commentary on the Bible - 2 Chronicles 5:2-14

2 Chronicles 5:2 to 2 Chronicles 7:10 . The Dedication of the Temple (see notes on 1 Kings 8).— The chief points of difference between the Chronicler’ s account and 1 Kings 8 are: ( a) that in 2 Chronicles 5:4 the Levites are the bearers of the Ark ( cf. 1 Chronicles 15:2; 1 Chronicles 15:26 f.) instead of the priests as in 1 Kings 8:3; ( b) that in 2 Chronicles 5:5 “ and” is omitted between “ the priests the Levites,” the two being thus identified; the omission may, however, be merely a... read more
