The Pulpit Commentary - Psalms 145:13

Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom (comp. Daniel 4:3 , Daniel 4:34 ). It is inconceivable that God's kingdom should come to an end. He cannot will it to cease, and so dethrone himself. Much less can any other, and necessarily inferior, power overthrow it. And thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. This is rather an anti-climax, since the generations of men will one day cease; but it was a customary phrase ( Psalms 33:11 ; Psalms 45:17 ; Psalms 49:11 ; Psalms 61:6 ... read more

The Pulpit Commentary - Psalms 145:13

God's everlasting kingdom. "What is infinite in greatness must be infinite in duration." "Thy kingdom is a kingdom of all eternities." On the door of the old mosque in Damascus, which was once a Christian church, but for twelve centuries has ranked among the holiest of the Mohammedan sanctuaries, are inscribed these memorable words: "Thy kingdom, O Christ, is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations." It is evident that the psalmist is endeavoring to... read more

Albert Barnes' Notes on the Whole Bible - Psalms 145:11

They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom - Of thy reign; of the great principles of thy government and laws. They see in that reign evidence that thou art worthy of universal praise. Seeing this, it becomes to them a subject on which they talk or converse (compare Malachi 3:16) - a subject of interest to their hearts, and “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” People talk about that which interests them; those things in which they have pleasure; those which they desire to... read more

Albert Barnes' Notes on the Whole Bible - Psalms 145:12

To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts - To bring other people to understand and to appreciate the evidences of the power of God. A man who sees this himself will wish that others may see it also. This is the foundation of the desire which warms and animates the heart of the Christian missionary - the desire to make the great truths of redemption known as far as possible, even to the ends of the earth. And the glorious majesty of his kingdom - And the glory of the majesty of his reign.... read more

It will never pass away as other dominions do; it will not change as dynasties do among people; it will not be overthrown as they are; its great principles will stand firm forever and ever. Bridgeway Bible Commentary - Psalms 145:1-21

Psalm 145-146 God is gracious and mercifulThe book of Psalms closes with six hymns of general praise. The first of these is David’s ‘Song of Praise’ and in the Hebrew is an acrostic. The other five have no titles, but each begins and ends with the words ‘Praise the Lord’.God is great and worthy to be the object of people’s praise, day and night, for ever and ever (145:1-3). Those who know God’s greatness should meditate upon it and proclaim it to others (4-7). Not only is God great, but he is... read more
