George Haydock's Catholic Bible Commentary - Leviticus 6:18

Lord. As long as this law shall be enforced. (Menochius) --- Sanctified. Theodoret (q. 5,) seems to assert, that all such were obliged to serve the altar in some function or other. If any unclean person touched the victims wilfully, he was slain; if, by mistake, the blood sprinkled a garment, it was to be washed, ver. 27. read more

Matthew Henry

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on the Bible - Leviticus 6:14-23

14-23 The law of the burnt-offerings put upon the priests a great deal of care and work; the flesh was wholly burnt, and the priests had nothing but the skin. But most of the meat-offering was their own. It is God's will that his ministers should be provided with what is needful. read more

The Popular Commentary by Paul E. Kretzmann - Leviticus 6:14-18

Of Meat-offerings. v. 14. And this is the law of the meat-offering, as far as the priests were concerned: The sons of Aaron shall offer it before the Lord, before the altar. Cf Leviticus 2:2-Ruth :. v. 15. And he, the officiating priest, shall take of it his handful, of the flour of the meat-offering, as much as his hand would hold, and of the oil thereof, and all the frankincense which is upon the meat-offering, and shall burn it upon the altar, of burnt offering, for a sweet savor,... read more

F.B. Meyer's 'Through the Bible' Commentary - Leviticus 6:8-23

Law of the Burned-Offering Leviticus 6:8-23 Notice well the teaching of this paragraph, which has special reference to the fire, which was to be kept always burning upon the altar. Thrice is the injunction repeated, Leviticus 6:9 ; Leviticus 6:12-13 . As it originally descended from God, Leviticus 9:24 , so it was to be ever maintained by the watchful care of the priests. It is interesting to notice that a different Hebrew word is used for the fire that burned on the great brazen altar... read more

G. Campbell Morgan

G. Campbell Morgan's Exposition on the Whole Bible - Leviticus 6:1-30

The first movement in this chapter completes the subject of the trespass offering in its application to other men. Carefully observe, however, that such a trespass is also trespass against the Lord: "If any one sin, and commit a trespass against Jehovah, and deal falsely with his neighbor. . . ." Five illustrations are given an examination of which will show that the underlying wrong in each case is violation of truth. The divine provision for worship having been revealed in the offerings,... read more

Peter Pett's Commentary on the Bible - Leviticus 6:14-18

The Law of the Grain Offering (Leviticus 6:14-18 ). This is dealing further with the grain offerings described in Leviticus 2:0 but concentrating more on the right of the priest to partake of them. It reminds us that it provides holy food for the priests. It is then followed by a description of the twice daily grain offering on behalf of the priests, of which they cannot partake. Leviticus 6:14-15 ‘And this is the law of the grain offering. The sons of Aaron shall offer it before Yahweh,... read more

Leviticus 6:8 to Leviticus 7:38 . Special Manual for Priests, given to “ Aaron and his sons” ( Leviticus 6:9; Leviticus 6:14; Leviticus 6:25, etc.; contrast Leviticus 4:2, etc.). The peace offering is here placed last. It may be noted that two sections ( Leviticus 7:7-2 Samuel : and Leviticus 7:22-Daniel :) seem to break the connexion; they are perhaps insertions from independent laws. None of these provisions affect laymen. read more

Leviticus 6:14-Job : . The Daily Meal Offering ( cf. ch. 2 for occasional meal offerings). A meal offering, however, accompanies every burnt offering. This section repeats the provision that no leaven must be used in the baking, and adds that the priests who eat their portion of it must do so in a holy place, and that no women must partake of it; the women of the priests’ families are in a lower grade of holiness; to them, as to laymen, the “ holy” offerings are taboo. This provision is... read more

Leviticus 6:19-Isaiah : . The High Priest’ s Special Offering.— The High Priest offers a meal offering every day, half in the morning, half at evening. The amount is the same as that of the smallest class of sin offerings ( Leviticus 5:11). Priests do not consume their own sin offering; this sacrifice must therefore be burnt entire. The reference to the day of installation ( Leviticus 6:20 a) must be a mistaken gloss (as is clear from “ perpetually,” Leviticus 6:20 b). read more
