2 Samuel 19:37. Behold thy servant Chimham— Chimham, it is generally supposed, was Barzillai's son; see 1 Kings 2:7. In Jer 41:17 there is mention of the habitation of Chimham, which was near Bethlehem; and it is a very reasonable conjecture of Grotius, that David, having a patrimony in the field of Bethlehem, bestowed it upon this son of Barzillai, whence the place took the name of Chimham. read more

His declining to go to court, his recommendation of his son, his convoy across the Jordan, and his parting scene with the king, are interesting incidents. What mark of royal favor was bestowed on Chimham has not been recorded; but it is probable that David gave a great part of his personal patrimony in Beth-lehem to Chimham and his heirs in perpetuity ( :-). read more
