Except You Eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and Drink His Blood (John 6:51-59 ). We are now gliding into the third phase of His teaching where He is teaching in the Synagogue, although the point at which the break comes is not fully apparent. Now He knows that He is talking to those who are seeking His life, and His message therefore alters to take that fact into account. This explains the change in emphasis. “I am the living bread which came down from Heaven. If any man eats of this bread he will live for ever. Yes, and the bread which I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” In contrast to the ‘manna from Heaven’, Jesus points out that He is ‘the living bread which came down from Heaven’, heavenly food that gives life.
