Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.That he should lay his hands on them — This was a rite which was very early used, in praying for a blessing on young persons. The disciples rebuked them The children were doubtless brought by the affection of the parents, who thus showed their faith in him, not only for themselves but for their offspring. It is with great propriety that immediately after our Saviour has settled the law of marriage under the Christian dispensation, he should also assign the place of children in the Christian Church.
