In this chapter,
(1,) By the vision of a basket of summer fruit, the prophet is shown the certainty and nearness of the destruction of the ten tribes, Amos 8:1-3 .
(2,) For their oppression of the poor, profanation of the sabbath, and injustice in traffic, they are threatened with the most ruinous and mournful calamities, Amos 8:4-10 .
(3,) For their idolatrous worship they are threatened with an utter deprivation of the word and ordinances of God, Amos 8:11-14 .
