Introduction

A.M. 4064. A.D. 60.

From what the apostle had advanced in the preceding chapter, to prove the ignorant and abandoned heathen to be inexcusable in their wickedness, he in this chapter,

(1,) Justly infers that the crimes of those who had such knowledge of the truth as to condemn the vices of others, were yet more inexcusable, and therefore that the Jews could no more be justified by the law of Moses, than the Gentiles by the law of nature, Romans 2:1-16 .

(2,) By detecting the sins of the Jews, he manifests that their external privileges, as God’s peculiar people, could not procure for them the divine favour, or render them acceptable in his sight, Romans 2:17-29 .
