Introduction

A.M. 4068. A.D. 64.

In this chapter the apostle

(1,) Concludes his exhortation to brotherly love, begun in the latter part of the preceding chapter and enforces it from the consideration of the love of God and Christ to us, Ephesians 5:1 , Ephesians 5:2 .

(2,) He repeats his warning against uncleanness, covetousness, drunkenness, and other vices, with a variety of arguments to enforce it, and urges upon his readers a contrary behaviour, Ephesians 5:3-20 .

(3,) He exhorts to relative duties in general, Ephesians 5:21 ; and to those of wives and husbands in particular, which he illustrates and enforces from the spiritual relation that subsists between Christ and his church, Ephesians 5:22-33 .
