Introduction
A.M. 4064. A.D. 60.
The apostle, addressing them as persons regenerated by the word of God,
(1,) Urges them, by a representation of their Christian privileges, to receive that word with meekness; to continue in the exercise of faith in Christ, as the great foundation of their eternal hopes, and to maintain such a holy conversation as might adorn his gospel among the unconverted Gentiles, 1Pe 2:1-12
(2,) He exhorts them to the performance of various relative duties, and especially to a proper regard and subjection to their civil governors, 1 Peter 2:13-17 .
(3,) Directs servants to obey their masters, whether believers or unbelievers, and whether gentle in their manners or froward, assuring them that it was an acceptable thing to God, if a servant or a slave, (as the word may signify,) from a principle of religion, suffered bad usage patiently, 1 Peter 2:18-20 .
(4,) He enforces his exhortation to them by the consideration of that patience with which the Lord Jesus endured his most grievous sufferings, 1 Peter 2:21-25 .
