Mesha, in his inscription, speaks of having rebuilt a city called "Beth-Bamoth" ( Isaiah 1:27 ), which must have been a "city of high places;" and he even calls the stele which he dedicates to Chemosh, whereon his inscription is written, a bamah , or "high place."
