Verse 9

Ezekiel 17:9. It shall wither, &c.— It shall altogether wither; nor shall the mighty arm or great company cause it not to be plucked up by the roots. It is very plain from the 17th verse, that by the mighty arm, &c. is meant the king of Egypt, whose assistance the Lord foretels should be useless to protect Zedekiah from the Chaldeans, who are in the next verse well compared to a parching wind, which blasts the fruits of the earth, and makes every thing look naked and bare. See Houbigant: who instead of east wind in Eze 17:10 reads vehement wind; and instead of furrows—orders or rows.
