Novelist, born Georgetown, D.C., 1815; died Washington, 1896. She was the daughter of a minister, was converted to the Catholic Faith, and thenceforth devoted herself to writing Catholic fiction. Among her best-known novels are "Tangled Paths," "The Old House at Glenarra," "Adrift," "Warp and Woof," "The Palms."
