Founded in Paris, France by Clovis who established there a college of clerics, later canons regular. With Notre Dame and Saint Victor's, Saint Genevieve's was the cradle of the University of Paris. Following the reforms instituted by Charles Faure, at the instance of Cardinal de La Rochefoucauld, early in the 17th century, Saint Genevieve's renaissance produced many distinguished sons. Abbey and school were closed in 1790 after the revolutionary Assembly.
