Bishop (c.1036-1086), called The Younger to distinguish him from his uncle, Pope Alexander II, born Mantua, Italy; died there. Made Bishop of Lucca by his uncle, he accepted lay investiture from Henry IV of Germany, and in remorse became a Benedictine. Gregory VII ordered him to return to his see, where he made many reforms. He wrote against lay investiture and the antipope Guibert. Patron of Mantua.
